Welcome to celebrate the 100-year-old Polytech Orchestra!
The Polytech Orchestra, also known as PO, turns hundred years in 2022. All kinds of fun stuff is coming up from our first concert in Musiikkitalo to a tour to Lapland and from PO100 Banquet to the publishing of a history book. You can find the timetable of the anniversary year on Events page.
PO is the oldest academic symphony orchestra in Finland. It was formed by the students at the Helsinki University of Technology, also called teekkaris, in 1922. Over the years the orchestra has moved from Helsinki city center to Otaniemi, the Helsinki University of Technology has changed to Aalto University and PO has grown from a small salon orchestra to a full-fledged or even a “mammoth” symphony orchestra. At the same time the artistic level of the orchestra has risen, and small pieces have been replaced by big symphonies. Still, the main motivation for playing is the shared love for music, without forgetting the fun of course.
You can read more about the orchestra and our activities on polyteknikkojenorkesteri.fi. Check also the 2/2022 published TEK article (in Finnish) about hundred-year-old PO.
